Star News, India's leading independent news channel, has standardized on Sony's DXC-D35 Studio Cameras, DVCAM equipment to facilitate their ENG operations and news bureau in a move that should bring greater efficiency and cost savings, as well as allowing news to reach the public faster .The news-gathering process is much more collaborative and efficient. The DVCAM system improved production workflow in acquiring pictures, manipulating content in-house and making use of the journalists' skills in the field.
Reporters are equipped with Sony's advanced DSR-PD150P DVCAM camcorders, which use three 1/3 inch CCDs to achieve excellent image quality, while weighing only 1.5 kg. One innovative feature is the ability to record directly onto hard disks, using the new DSR-DU1 portable hard disk unit. It records up to three hours of video, but is small enough to be easily carried. The DSR-DU1 unit also adds functionality, with remote control, cache recording, and interval recording.
The DSR-DU1 can connect through an iLINK connector to the DSR-DR1000P Hard Disk Recorder, a powerful unit that provides most of the VTR's functions, but with a hard disk big enough for six hours of video instead of tape. The DSR-DR1000P also has an Ethernet connection, allowing streaming and transferring of DVCAM material over networks to improve the workflow especially in field production for breaking news. The camcorders and portable hard disk units can be used as an editing player or the material in the camcorder can be transferred via a simple i.LINK connection to DSR-70AP Portable Editing Recorders, which can provide simple cut editing with frame accuracy.
Trilogy Talkback system make it efficient to connect to Mumbai HQ. Synergy Video switcher and Sound craft Audio mixer added high technology and efficient operation in the Programmed Control Room (PCR).
